Lies My Doctor Told Me

This book is not about doctor bashing.  It is an open, honest discussion of the misinformation, half-truths and outright lies doctors tell their patients every day.  Ken Berry MD has written a book for patients and doctors that will help bring them together as a team or push them apart.

“Lies My Doctor Told Me”, is a ground breaking, eye opening, spiral bound book that shockingly reveals the truth about your doctor his/her practice and how you fit into the equation.  I was blown away by some of the claims made by doctors that were extremely misleading.   Others were completely false and absurdly baseless but none the less are believed by millions of people.

Mark Hyman MD says doctors as a group have a strange similarity to a cult in which members are forbidden to question anything.  For example, why don’t doctors learn about metabolic health in medical school or why do medical school students learn about sickness and disease but do not study the prevention of illness?

In this book Dr. Berry completely annihilates the lies by subjecting them to pragmatic scientific objectivity.  He skillfully exposes the subjective nature of the lies using common sense and scientific facts.  For instance, one of the lies is that eating salt increases your risk of having high blood pressure which increases the probability for heart attack and stroke.

Common sense reveals that for all of our existence on this planet we have loved and eaten as much salt as we could find.  All mammals crave salt and have traveled great distances to find it.  In reality it is difficult to eat too much salt because healthy kidneys easily urinate away excess salt. Hundreds of studies have been conducted including the 2003 Cochran review of fifty-seven research trials, the 2006 American Journal of Medicine study and the American Journal of Hypertension study of 8,000 participants all of which concluded that salt had virtually no impact on blood pressure.

Doctors lie when they say red meat is not good for you and eating it every day increases your risk of colon cancer or increase cancer risk overall.  When you apply the commonsense knowledge that humans have been eating red meat for 200,000 years before cultivating grain or farming you realize that red meat is an essential part of our diet.  Red meat is filled with vitamins, minerals, protein and healthy fats.

No controlled research studies have concluded that eating red meat daily causes cancer.  The problem is none of the studies conducted by The World Health Organization or Big Pharmaceutical Corporations actually discovered that red meat causes cancer.  The available research studies consists of questionnaires and subjective inquiries that rely on the memories and truthfulness of the subjects. They based their conclusions on association rather than actual scientific cause and effect results.  The available research does not account for alcohol use or smoking which both contribute to the development of cancer.  Essentially there are no controlled double-blind studies proving that consuming red meat causes cancer.

More Lies; (1) Eating fat leads to high cholesterol obesity and heart disease. (2) Drinking milk is good for you and strengthens bones. (3) High cholesterol in your blood increases the risk of heart attack. (4) Whole wheat and carbohydrates are healthy foods which are very good for your body. (5) If you exercise more you will lose more weight. (6) Processed meat like beacon, sausage, bologna and hot dogs cause cancer. None of these statements are true. Do the research for yourself.

As a non- red meat eater I had not eaten red meat in 40 years.  After reading this book I went to the grocery store, purchased a sirloin steak brought it home, generosity seasoned it with salt, cooked it and ate the whole thing.  And at the same instant decided to begin a carnivore diet.
