Dr. Bruce Lipton is a well known cell biologist and medical school professor who has completely changed the way doctors look at genes and their affect on human development.  Genes were once thought to control everything from eye color, personality traits to predicting what kind of disease we would die from.  Doctors are now beginning to realize that theory is wrong.

Just because your mother died of breast cancer does not mean you will.  And just because your father died of congestive heart failure, alcoholism or prostate cancer does not mean it will affect his children because they share his genes.  But as most of us already know a person can will themselves to die.  If we harbor and nurture the belief that we will die of a certain disease it will probably come to pass.

The famous actress Angelina Jolie had a double mastectomy to reduce her chances of getting breast cancer.  Her decision was based on the fact that her mother and aunt died of breast cancer.  Based on the present interpretation of the gene theory, her doctors became concerned about the probability that she would develop breast cancer.  After a long period of deliberation the 37 year old actress decided to have the operation.

In contrast Dr. Lipton says genes are blueprints that do not turn on and off and they are influenced primarily by outside forces.  The overriding factor determining whether or not one contracts a disease is not the genes but the environment in which the genes exist.  Your blood is the environment that determines how cells develop and express themselves.

Thirty years of cutting edge experimentation in stem cell research has created a whole new discipline called “epigenetics.”  It is the study of changes in genes caused by modifications in the blood.   And that is to say, epigenetists are medical scientists who study how body fluids surrounding genes actually effect the development of the genes themselves.

They have found that the blood surrounding the gene cells determine what diseases will manifest in the body.  Therefore, we can set ourselves free from the notion that genes control our destiny.   It is the environment (blood) and what is in the blood that determines who gets what disease.

The First Seven Years of Life

The great Greek philosopher Aristotle once said, “Give me a child until he is 7 and I will show you the man.”  The Greeks knew the importance of the first 7 years.  Dr. Lipton says the reason for this is a child’s brain frequency is operating in Theta which is one step above dream state.

Brain Frequency State of Mind

State                                                    Frequency                                          State of

                                                            Range                                                 Mind

Alpha                                                  8-14Hz                                                Relaxed Alert

Theta                                                  4-8Hz                                                  First stage sleep

Delta                                                   0.5-4Hz                                               Deep Sleep

Children’s brains function in Theta because they constantly use their subconscious mind.  The subconscious mind records and the conscious mind focus on needs, wants and desires.

Think about it in order for a child to become a functional member of a family they must learn literally thousands of rules, situational behaviors and social etiquette.  There is no way a child can learn all of this information/data so they watch listen and record everything into their subconscious mind.  Unfortunately there are a lot of negative memories that are also permanently recorded.  When a situation arises the child refers to the prerecorded program.  After the age of 7 and for the rest of their lives the programs execute on their own.  Keep in mind they are not all the same program but 65% of them have the same negative theme.

Scientists who studied mind wondering say human beings only use their conscious minds 10% of the time and their unconscious minds 90% of the time.  That means that 90% of the time we are on auto pilot and not completely conscious of what they are doing.  How many times have you driven home from work and when you arrived you didn’t remember how you got there.  You didn’t remember certain land marks or having stopped at a certain traffic light.  That’s because your subconscious mind was driving. Your subconscious knows how to drive; it knows the way home and is perfectly capable of driving while you are thinking about something else.

Scientists say that 75% of our thoughts are recurring and most of them are negative.  Our thoughts can make us anxious or depressed depending on the theme of the thought.  These are the programs recorded between the ages of birth and 7 years old.  Think of these programs as simple negative threads that consistently recur in our minds over time.

Fortunately there are three ways to overcome childhood subconscious programming;

1) Hypnosis  2) Meditation or 3) Super Learning techniques.  Meditation is the most popular and widely used “mind health” tool in the world.  Self-talk or the voice we hear within our mind can be silenced through progressive relaxation strategies and meditation.  The brain uses 25% of the body’s energy so the less time we spend entertaining random thoughts the more energy we save and the more relaxed we become.  In addition you can listen to motivational recordings just before going to sleep to achieve Theta level positive suggestion therapy.

The Honeymoon Effect

As the description suggests this effect is only temporary but if you apply certain mental techniques, self awareness and focus you can extend the effect indefinitely.  Think about it.  Think about a time when life was slow and boring and all of a sudden you meet a stranger, a person to whom you have a strong attraction.

And it’s like magic. Your life doesn’t suck anymore.  You can’t stop thinking about your new acquaintance.  Everything you do involves either thinking about or being with this person.  So what happened you may ask? What happened was a mixture of thoughts and chemistry.

In his book, “The Honeymoon Effect” Dr. Bruce Lipton describes the process that takes place when you see someone you are attracted to.  Your conscious thoughts describe what your eyes are viewing and the brain responds by producing certain chemicals.  So when you see someone you like your brain produces dopamine, oxytocin, vasopressin and growth hormones.  These chemicals create a sense of euphoria, bliss, happiness and wellbeing.

The reason the effect does not last is because eventually we lose focus and begin thinking about things like the job, the rent, the bills, etc.  What happened is you stopped using your conscious mind (Needs, wants and desires) and went back to running the programs (prerecorded themes).

The way to prolong the honeymoon effect is to always consciously hold loving thoughts of your significant other in your mind and your brain will produce the corresponding chemicals.
